I grew up in a loving and supportive family in South Fitchburg. In the fourth grade I began parochial school. I felt the call to become a sister at a fairly young age. Sister Mary Elise encouraged me to enter the convent, which I did at age 15. When I told my father I was going to enter he cried because he knew that I would be protected and loved, and I have been.
The congregation has been responsible for my education, from high school through my master’s. With a kind and loving mistress of novices supporting me, I began my first ministry as an elementary teacher. I taught in grades kindergarten through third grade, but was happiest when teaching the young grades.
I took a course that changed my focus to pastoral ministry. I enjoy being a part of the RCIA process. It was a wonderful gift to share this Christian initiation with others as they came to know God more fully.
My favorite ministry experience, however, was working with our own sisters. During the summer months Sister Linda LeBlanc guided me to minister in care of our sisters at the motherhouse. That was a very rewarding and fulfilling experience for me; to be able to do something for the sisters meant a lot to me. It was one of the greatest blessings of community life.
God is so good and there is nothing like the support of a religious community; you feel surrounded with love. Even when I have experienced challenging times, my sisters have been supportive, loving and embracing. I have a sense of security knowing that I belong to this faith-filled group!
At the center of my life is prayer. I am thankful for the deep, enriching prayer and retreat experiences that have been the foundation of my vowed life. To encounter God in such depth and the strength that has brought to my spiritual life has allowed me to be the person I am.
Now retired, I enjoy quiet time in contemplation, but also like to keep my mind engaged with activities on my iPad.
